hi, i was wondering what you are supposed to do with the battery when you get it. is this the way you do it.....

Charge the battery fully (2-6 hr) when received then fully discharge the battery. Then immediately recharge the battery and repeat this process 2-4 times to condition battery life, then you can recharge/discharge whenever you want but don’t let charge fall below 20% if you can help it.

is that the correct way? if not someone plz tell me how you are supposed to use it.

Repeating the process several times deliberately shouldn't be necessary. However your battery will last a long time if you use your laptop battery until it is practically empty before plugging it in and when it is switched off pull the adaptor out of the laptop so it isn't constantly charging (unless you need it charged to go out somewhere shortly). The adaptor often gets very hot after your battery is finished charging so unless you are doing something that needs intensive power eg games or photoshop etc you can run off battery again once it is charged to conserve the life of your adaptor.

About never letting charge drop below 20% I always let it drain to 3-5% before switching to power and have never had a battery either die on me or get shorter in its life.

I don't think its necessary to "condition" the battery in any way. Just charge the laptop when you first get it and you should be good to go. I'm pretty sure any process involving repeated full discharges of the battery would have more of a detrimental than good effect on the health of the battery. Just keep in mind to calibrate the battery you may want to fully discharge it every month or so.

Don't use it until it completely discharges but once it reaches say 5%. Leaving your battery to charge the entire time is pointless and a waste of electricity and it will eventually have a detrimental effect on the adaptor and the battery as it rarely gets the chance to drain. People might disagree with me but after 18 months of use my battery still held as much charge as it did when it was new while some other people have to replace in half that time or suffer a large loss in battery life

Why fully discharge it? Keep it charged at all times. I would not let the battery go under 10%. Why stress the battery any further when it says 10%? You'll only get a couple more minutes out of it. Charge it as soon as you have an AC outlet available.

ahh ok so let me get this straight, when i get it, let the battery run down to like 5-10% then fully recharge and then i can use it whenever i want to charge it?

Why bring the battery down to cripple state? That's not going to help. Think of it this way: whenever the battery is low it's bad... for the battery, if you leave it on empty and you don't charge it for a while then it's probably even worse. Try to keep it 100% charged any chance you get.

Cripple state? If it isn't empty nothing is crippled! Putting in the power takes seconds and then it will recharge again. That way you are putting the battery through a full charge and recharge cycle. Re-calibration will never be necessary and it will last a very long time. It will last even longer if you unplug your machine when it is turned off once the battery is already charged.

Mine lasts a very long time without the re-calibration process and I have it since 2007 except I never drained it completely.

Didn't lithium battery studies show that it's better to constantly charge a battery than having to recharge it repeatedly?
