    Hello,

We're looking to get our first laptop. The one were' looking at is a thin/light model.

I'd like to get a docking port and like the features (& looks) of the belkin high speed docking station. It says only on any website i look at that is connects through an expresscard.

The laptop we are looking at has only an expresscard/34. I'm wondering if anyone out there knows if this is what this docking station uses?

    Thanks,
    David

p.s. i'm in canada, anyone know where to get it up here?

You can order it on the Dell website already, so maybe Belkin just didn't update theirs? The reviews though are less than stellar...

Pretty much there are none that are as good as the proprietary ones certain ThinkPads, Sony Vaio's, HP's NC-series and ASUS V-series have.

The Belkin was something new and fresh but from the reviews, doesn't seem like a good deal.

Well, I've a DTR, so I don't need/use a docking station. However, unless there's a docking station that's made specifically for your laptop (like with HPs), this just might be the best one. The reason is, it uses an ExpressCard, which has a much faster data transfer rate than USB, and that's important when you have a monitor in the picture.

There are only 2 reviews on Dell.com because this product is still very fresh. You mentioned that you still don't have a laptop. I'd wait around to see if Belkin fixes the bugs. After all, it is still listed as "coming soon" on the Belkin page, and I don't know if any other vendors already have it in stock, so maybe the revisions that Dell is selling are still not completely ready for the market.

EDIT: ha ha I made a pun and I didn't even try! :p

Ok I see now, didn't know that they were proprietary. I think that I'll wait and see.

That won't work i guess we'll have to find another option.
Btw, where did you find the info stating that it is a expresscard/54.

    Thanks,
    David

They're all the same speed and spec-wise. You can probably find an adapter to plug in the 54 male end in and feed out into a 34 male end.
