Hello,
I'm looking for a replacement LCD panel.
From you opinion, what are the best 15.4" WSXGA (1680*1050px) and WUXGA (1920*1200px) LCD panels ?
For me, benchmarks notably are:
- Brightness
- Brightness consistency (no mura effect)
- Contrast
- Viewing angles
- Color scales display (no posterization)
- Response time
- Overdrive control (no artefact)
Thanks,
lélé

LG and AUO make some good screen, Samsung is just crap.
However, at this point, WUXGA on a 15.4'' only has mediocre quality, stick with the WSXGA+. -
i have a samsung WUXGA screen on my notebook. i've compared it to my 37" 720p LCD and my notebook has much more vivid colors. the added real estate on a WUXGA screen is a big plus to me.

What kind of differences should I expect ?
(Contraste,viewing angles, response time...) -
It really depends on the laptop, cause their are many Samsung, AUO, hyundai, mitsubishi, lg, etc screens which are really good, and many which are really bad.
What laptop(s) are you looking at, cause that would help narrow down the screen comparison. Generally LG, AUO, Samsung and Hyundai make the majority of laptop screens.
I have three samsung screens in laptops, and they are really nice, my bro had a few auo and lg's in the past and they have been bad, but it really depends on the laptop and the screen model. I have had some sweet auo and lg panels too, but not all are great, some are bad.

In fact I want to upgrade my Dell Precision LCD panel.
Screen framing mounts and connectors are standard, so I could go for (almost) any 15.4" LCD panel on the market (Sharp, LG-Philips, Samsung, AU-Optronics, CMO...).
I do a lot of photography work (Capture NX, Photoshop).
At home, I use a calibrated wide-gammut 30" screen (Dell 3007WP-HC, calibrated with a Gretag Eye-One Pro spectrophotometer).
I need a good replacement tool when moving.
I don't care 'glossy finish which makes colors even more (over) saturated'.
I want :
- Matte finish;
- High contrast;
- Enough brightness for daylight working;
- Good brightness uniformity;
- Good color temperature stability (with most LCD screens black point temperature is much more higher than white point temperature);
- Wide viewing angles (the main issue with notebook screens IMHO);
- Good color scales display (no posterization, no hue/tint deviation);
- ...
But some are better than the others.

Any other comment ?

Is your notebook still under warranty? Try to contact Dell and see if they will replace the panel for you with another one.

Well, the connection types are not a standard for laptops. Actually most laptop screens use a different interface. The port with which the lcd connects are usually different from laptop model to model.
Usually the higher resolution panels look nicer, but its hard to know for sure. You would have to ask Dell for the model number of each compatible lcd panel they have. From their you can see which one's are TN or S-IPS panels, contrast, viewing angle's and so forth.

I could buy the LCD panel from Dell.
(It's still under warranty, but the original panel was broken, so they won't replace it for free..)
However:
- Buying the LCD panel from Dell doubles the price! (200=>400)
- Dell does NOT guarantee the LCD panel model. You ask for 'a 15.4" WUXGA panel for Dell Precision M70', then they send you what they have in stock. It means it could be a good panel like a LG-Philips LP154WU1, as a mediocre panel like Samsung LTN154U1-L03 (the original panel of my M70).
IMHO it's a better option to choose a panel and to buy it on eBay.
