    Hi there,

I saw there was a topic dealing with best LCD screens, but with a 1080p resolution.

I am looking for a matte LCD screen with a 1366*768 resolution. Got an Acer Aspire M5-581TG with a GT640m, and a fullHD screen will force me to lower the graphic setting ingame, where a HD screen would be good to play in a decent enough quality.

Does anyone have suggestions about this kind of LCD screen ?

    Thanks !

First off, you will almost never find a matte low resolution LCD panel, nor will you find a good panel because a low resolution panel is exactly that. Now that being said, I know MSI had 1368x768 panels that were better than average but still had a pretty blue bias. Most cheapo panels have atrocious viewing angles and color gamut. When you can get a HD panel for 45
    dollars don't expect much.

Yeah, I suppose HD panels are not meant to be high end ones. I was told about AUO B156XTN02.1 LCD screen, don't know if someone has ever tried it.

But I'll check MSI HD panels, I saw that the ones used in the last GT60 & GT70 (FullHD) are pretty good ones. Perhaps the HD panels they're using are above average quality.

    THanks for the advice.

Instead of looking for a good HD display.
you should opt for FHD, it will give a better display quality and you could scale down the resolution if necessary and still you will have a better display quality than HD.

I was thinking about that idea but doesn't the image blurry when you lower the native resolution of the screen ?

It won't be as crisp, but it shouldn't be too bad either. Also, you can set your video card not to scale, that means that you'll have black bars around the image (you'll only be using ~50% of your monitor), but the image will remain crisp. If you have access to a 1920x1080 display, you can try it, make your GPU is set not to scale in nVidia CP or Catalyst and then change your resolution to 1366x768.

Either way, right now for 15", it's
    Matte
    Good quality
    1366x768

    Pick two.

Once, i tried local store to replace my asus n56vz's 1366x768 panel with FHD AUO B156HW01 V.4 .. but something wrong in the colour in windows login, possibly the lvds cable. So no FHD then.

    Mine is AUO B156XTN02.4 : matte, 200nits, CR : 400, Colour Gamut : 45%

What should i expect if i replace it with LG LP156WH2-TLQ2, same resoluton, glare, 200nits. CR : 500, Colour Gamut : 60% ?

Those specs are taken from panelook.com. Thx

I could not find any LCD screen compatible with my Acer Aspire M5-581tg that is not too expensive.. The only screens compatible with an M5-581TG seem to be the F2156WH6 and LP156WH6 references. But I can't find any reference under 190$....

I saw that this screen has a 30 pin connector also... Does anyone has any more chance than me ?

30 pin LVDS means you are pretty much stuck with 768 LCD.

On a side note, my old MacBook Air 2009 had an awesome 13.3" matte TN panel with resolution of just 1280x800, so apparently it's possible to have a good quality matte screen with a lower resolution.

I'm looking for the same thing as OP - best quality screen for a resolution of 1366x768 and screen size 15.6 inch. I know that such IPS panels are nonexistent, so I guess a good quality TN panel would suffice. Any ideas?

Honestly, there's not really a "best" 15.6" 768p display in my book. All of them are frankly pretty bad (when compared to a nice 1080p display) and picking the best 15.6" 768p display is like picking the best-looking turd out of the toilet. It might be the best one of the group, but you really don't want it.

I've seen a fair share of the 800p MB/MBP screens and the only reason they look nice(-ish) is that they have a higher PPI than a 768p 15.6" display and Apple slaps a piece of glass on top of the display. Color quality, viewing angles, and so on were still just "meh", same as the bottom-of-the-barrel 768p displays found on 15.6" laptops.

Personally, I wouldn't consider 768p on anything bigger than 11.6"; used to be 13.3" or bigger, though I'm absolutely loving the 1400x1050 12.1" display on my current primary laptop. If 768p is an absolute must, personally I'd still get a higher-resolution (1080p+) display and just scale down. At least that way you gain the advantage of more vivid colors, higher contrast, etc. that high-res panels tend to have over low-res panels.

another point to add, is that since apple gets their own production line for an 800p screen that only fits on their product, instead of multiple models from multiple manufacturers striving for the same 768p screen production line, as demand increases, supply increases and to maximise profit, they decrease the quality of production especially when multiple manufacturers demanded an as low as possible price

if I were the manufacturer and are to choose 1 from the production lines below to lower their quality:

768p, multiple lower cost quote, 10x 800p demand
800p, single lower cost quote, baseline demand
1080p. multiple lower cost quote, 800p demand

i'd go for lowering the quality of higher demand products, and also a side note, mass production results to lower quality due to limited man power and lack of time for quality control (sometimes they even have to skip quality control to save time on batch shipment dates)

I completely agree with you - all 768p screens are quite bad. However, as I'm stuck with this resolution (my laptop doesn't support anything above 768p), I've got to look for the best turd out there. If you know any 15.6 laptop with a high quality 768p screen, this would be wonderful.

As for the Apple's screens - I really have no idea what they did to them. I can only say that the colours were literally amazing, it can't even be remotely compared to my current laptop's screen. It's like they did an internal calibration along with higher quality screen. The same goes for the newest Asus G750 - it has a 17.3" 1080p TN panel, however the colour quality is way better and the contrast ratio is much higher.

If I'm buying a new laptop, I'll certainly buy one with an IPS screen, I really can't stand the low quality TNs.
If you know any good 768p panel, please let me know, I'm really interested.

how did you go with this?

    I have an ASUS N56VM - S3124V

The screen is a B156XTN02.4 hd matte 1366x768

id like to replace it with a B156HW01 full hd matte 1920x1080

Any idea if it will work or any other options?

    Thanks for the reply,

    That sounds promising :)

Did you have to change the ribbon cable at all?
