It seems like whenever this question is asked, there's never a real answer. What are considered some of the best 1080p monitors for 17.3" laptops? There's a nasty red dot that shows up on white backgrounds on my LCD. I have a 1600x900 screen that I was planning to upgrade and this just gives me more incentive to do it.

But yes, what are some of the better screens? I guess while we're at it, what are some of them better 900p screens too?

If you're talking about the built-in laptop screen and replacing it, I'm also interested as I'm about to order an x7200 but it sounds like they come with relatively inferior screens now.

There are actually several threads on this in this subforum. The best screen hands down for a 17" is in the HP Elitebook 8740w (and soon to come 8760w). It's a hefty ($500+) upgrade but it's an IPS (S-IPS possibly) panel with RGBLED backlight. There really aren't any others even close to this currently, though there are rumours that the new Dell Precision M6600 will get the same or similar IPS panel.

Is this the LG LGD0270 Panel?

So it stands that just the specific LG screen currently shipping in the x7200 isn't that great, but not all LG screens suck?

Where can you order the LG LGD0270 Panel stand alone?

If you're thinking about installing a Dreamcolor 2 panel in a different notebook... forget about it. It's a 10-bit panel, as compared to the 6/8 bit panels in regular notebooks, so the chances it'll work in a notebook not designed for it are slim. It's also a 16:10 panel. The upcoming 8760w may have a 16:9 panel, but we don't have any real solid information on it yet.

I'm interested as well. I have a 900p resolution notebook and I'd love to have one of those 1920x1200 res screens on it.

That's a 1920x1200 screen so it doesn't fit the qualifications anyway.

Pretty sure the updated 8760w and possibly the M6600, will have 17.3" 16:9 1080p IPS panels... but they haven't been released officially yet. Though in the end, I doubt you'd be able to swap panels anyways.

Like Kuro, I am interested in a screen upgrade, I can tell you curo, that the OUR screen, in the FHD revision is one of the best out there, so it is the AOU B173HW01 V.4...

So far this should be the best screen. the AOU B173HW01 V.5 is the MATTE version, (if I am not mistaken) and should have very close values as color/contrast quality.

What I wanna know is what 1600x900 panel is the M17x R3 using, to check their quality but none could give me an answer...

I'm also interested in this thread. A couple of nasty dead pixels have sprouted up on my G73, so I thought it'd be a good opportunity to upgrade to a 1920 x 1080 panel.

I have the AUO full HD pannel and its quite good. However , i think the Hanstar or LG pannel will be a better option for the G73.

I'm gonna need a source on that personally. I heard the Hannstar model is the best and the AUO model is good also. My problem with AUO is the screens commonly have the "Grain" effect on black/dark colors, I've seen it on both the 900p and 1080p revisions. Either way, I was hoping to get something even BETTER than both of those. If such a screen exist, I want it.

At this point I'm only interested in moving to 1080. I'd like the extra screen space.

AUO B173HW01 V0(72%) & V4(90%) are decent. I used to have both and ultimately kept the V0 due to more neutral colors.

lol mine is pretty much the same, the only difference should be a bit more screen door effect :X

What do you mean, the V4 had too much Color???
I would not mind moving to 1080. but I do ming losing my FPS...
How is gaming at 1600x900 on a 1080 panel?
I guess the game looks like blurryed...

your 5870 could very well handle 1080p unless your really going for 100fps on fps'es.
the auo on my old sager 8690 scaled nicely to 900p but of course nothing beats native res.
