It's gotta be between the Samsung and Hitachi, since the two WD are ATA,and you need a sata hard drive

WD2500BEV S is SATA and WD2500BEV E is EIDE / PATA (AFAIK the only PATA HDD >160GB).

Based on past performance I would expect the Hitachi to have fractionally better performance provided you don't mind the noise; the Samsung is probably the coolest and quietest; while the WD is also quiet but runs a little warmer. Performance-wise there's very little between the Samsung and the WD.

I've been running the WD2500BEVS for over 2 months. There are some reports on NewEgg of SMART problems with this HDD. I tired running ActiveSMART which reports problems but WD's diagnostics give it a completely clean bill of health. Before the WD I had the Samsung but that had compatibility problems with the Intel 945 chipset so I sent it back (I believe this has now been fixed and Samsung would probably be my choice if I was buying now because they have a good balance between power, performance and noise).

Hitachi seems noisy to me from the current Hitachi I have in my V6Va, so I think I'll go for Samsung, Thanks :)

i have the wd scorpio and it is great, i have no issues with it. the hitachi are great drives but i agree they are def noisy. segate would be my first choice but if i was looking at price the wd or samsung are what i would pick imo with the wd ahead of the samsung..i had a couple of bad samsung drives in the past the reason they would be last on my list
