We just picked up a HP DV6324US ( 699 from CC) for my brother, and since it was such a great price we might buy 2GB of ram for it. I will probably buy the ram from newegg, but I don't know what to get. First, I don't know if this notebook runs DDR2 667 or DDR2 533, or if it runs either of those. So what type of ram does this notebook run, and what should I get from newegg if I want the best performance?

That notebook will accept either 533 Mhz or 667 Mhz RAM. Have a look on newegg.com which RAM you can get. I believe the cheapest is around the $60 mark for one module of 1 GB. Its normally better to go with reputable brands, like Corsair, OCZ, G. Skill, Kingston and Crucial, but since people don't really have any trouble with cheaper brands, you may want to consider them. However, the difference in price between those brands, and the reputable ones is not a great deal at all, and I would advise to go with that.

Frequency wise, both 533 MHz and 667 Mhz will performance the same. Thats because the extra speed of the 667 MHz RAM is offset by the higher lantency value.

I think your current insatlled ram is probably running at 533Mhz.You can run a test at crucial.com to test the speed.Your upgrade can be at 533mhz OR 667mhz SINCE 667 mhz will automatically clocked down to 533mhz.performance wise you won't really notice much of a difference. For upgrade You can checkout post at fatwallet.com.I think you can get a 1 gb upgrade as low as $50.

I'm quite sure all HP dv2000/6000/9000 Pavilions use DDR2-667 Mhz RAM (PC5300).

Any budget RAM should be fine. G.Skill, Corsair, Kingston are just a few reputable names in the RAM industry. I think currently the best deal at Newegg are the following RAM modules from G.Skill:

It's cheap. It's from a reputable company. It's a massive amount of RAM. It's perfect.

Its surprising that you post a link to that since thats the memory I had been looking at but wasn't sure if it would work. I have g.skill in my desktop and its great, so g.skill was my #1 choice when looking for laptop ram.

Chris.. I was wondering if you received/installed the memory yet and how it worked out?
I was going to buy that SAME pc but also want to upgrade to 2gb mem.
    Wasn't sure if it required 2 1gb (or 1 gb - I suspect they used 2 512's?)

Anyway.. it is between this and the Dell 6400 which is pretty cheap right now, but I like the remote feature on the HP.

Appreciate a reply if you or anyone else can answer this one.

    Regards, KC

if you have 1gb in your DV right now, it has 512x2 so you will need to get 2x1gb sticks of pc5300 667mhz ram.

    and yes, dv2000s, 6000s, 9000s all run 667mhz pc5300 ram

Not all Hp have 667Mhz ram however all of them are DDr2 ram.I own hp nc6400 and it has ddr2 1gb(1x1) installed operating at 533mhz.I upgraded it to 2 Gb the seond ram was ddr2 running at 667mhz.You won't really notice much diffrence in perfomance between the two speeds because ultimately hard disk is the slowest component in a laptop .

im thinking about getting 2gb of ram for my system too (e1505) and i don't know whether i should get the 667 mhz or the 533. The prices are about the same, and I know my processor has the 667 mhz fsb (i think) and I heard that matching fsb and ram give better performance. I know that the latencys and what-not make the 533 and 667 about the same, but I would just like to know if I would get any bonus from the 667 seeing as my fsb is 667.

sorry, i meant only those models i listed because those were the multimedia models i knew of; i wasnt too sure about the business models

if you want cheap but stable and reliable memory, i purchased from this eBay member for $50 a stick. He has prices up at $60 right now, but if you message him and tell him you want 2 for $50 a piece, he'll do it like he did for me

Newegg is probably the best place to get RAm from. They stock practically all of the manufacturers, and have both 533 Mhz and 667 MHz. There is practically no difference between the frequencies, so its normally best to go with which ever is cheaper. Matching the frequency of the RAM and FSB is less important with most modern day processors.
