    Hi everybody

I would like to know what is the best 60 - 64GB SSD drive available. I intend to use it as a boot and system drive basically all of the programmes I use will run off of the SSD drive.

So what is the best one available. I don't have any use for anything higher and my budget is tight..

What region you in and how tight is the budget? I mean $30-40 can be the difference between 64 and 128GB nowadays.

    60-64GB SSD's?

There is no 'best' (simply best of the worst...).

Save your money until your budget can buy you a 240GB SSD (or larger) and you only need to fill it less than 70% too.

    Good luck.

I doubt the OP had a workload that resemble tiller usage. Filling over 70% should be fine, unless you really bombarding write on it.

I'm going to be using it in my new laptop.. I'm based in the UK so the difference between a 64GB and a 128GB is roughly £30 - £40 which I can't really afford.. As for saving my budget I'd rather not wait for something that I don't need..

This is one of the reliable SSDs out there, you can shop around and get some discounts, visit hotukdeals.com, some of the OCZ SSDs are cheaper but it's a pot luck getting a reliable drive from OCZ brand.

What I would suggest then is save your money and put it towards an upgrade for Win8 with your new system (here, it is $15...) instead of the SSD - you'll see a bigger overall boost in performance and stability than simply getting an under-spec'd SSD imo.

On what do you base your statement that you 'don't need anything higher'? The smaller capacity SSD's fail faster, perform slower and will come to a crawl when filled (slower than any mechanical - even with the same % filled).

With money being tight as you state you're in for a frustrating and/or expensive (in time/money/replacing/rebuilding) ownership experience in my view. Hope I'm wrong though.

I agree to not wait for something you don't need - but note that SSD's are not at the level where HDD's are. (In my opinion, they're still somewhere between Beta and RC status - with certain models and configurations even below Alpha states).

    Good luck.

Thanks the input tiller.. You raise a valid argument particularly regarding the fact that SSD's are still new borns so to speak.. Win8 is not going to be out for a while yet and upgrading to that won't be a problem.. What would be your suggestion in terms of the SSD if I was to be able to stretch my budget??

For a current platform (IB) system; I would recommend the Intel 520 Series (240GB size) to really let the system fly.

As for Win8 - you may want to try the latest preview (good till Jan 15, 2013). Of course, I would recommend installing this on a new/other HDD/SSD (not your main system disk).

That's a £200 drive.. What is your view on the 120GB version and the alternatives offered by other manufacturers??

Sorry; not worth the money (even if they're free...) for the eventual performance they'll settle into (in as little as 2 days in my case.

Intel all the way (but @ 240GB and bigger capacity...).

Imo, get one if you need one, personally i never heard or read small SSD will "fail faster, perform slower and will come to a crawl when filled (slower than any mechanical - even with the same % filled)." under normal usage. Sure, the drive will crash and burn if you do constant heavy IO on it, but for a boot drive with game and norm stuff, they will be fine.
