Any memory that fits your computer and has a lifetime warranty. Beyond that, it doesn't matter. There's a ram deals thread that should help you out. Brand isn't as important in a laptop as a desktop.

Doesnt matter which brand, they are all pretty much the same. You should worry more about the RAM's support and warranty

Here are a few brands: Transcend, OCZ, Kingston, Corsair

Why not look into EXTERNAL memory? You can use a USB memory drive or an MCC SDHC Micro and have all the memory you need... and can use it for something else when you aren't doing something that would require additional memory....

    just an idea....

Yea. I agree. Look on www.Newegg.Com

    Premium brands of RAM.

    Corsair
    Kingston
    Etc.

Not much of a performance boost like they said look for warranty and price. Newegg doesnt always have the best prices either so search around the web. Check out resellerratings.com too if your not sure of the validity of the site.

Temporary memory (ram) is totally different then permanent memory (hard drive or external drives).

To add to what nizzy1115 said the external has effective bandwidth of 10MB/s to 20MB/s RAM has 3,000MB/s to 4,000MB/s. Random access time for external is measured in ms RAM is measured in ns. External can not do the job of RAM effectively because to little bandwidth and to slow, if it was even possible they likely would of figured out how to use the HDD, oh yea they did and it is called "pagefile" and all of us buy more RAM to try and avoid it as much as possible.

I belive the brand somwwhat matters. Not to the point of paying $100 extra for a specific brand, but i like Crucial. But some people, as demonstrated on this thread, say it doesnt matter. To be honest, im not sure, but mainly, go for the cheapest price and lowest Latency

Brand doesnt matter but i can tell u bad experience with Transcend. It has a higher defect rate compared to other brands.
    Look for Lifetime Warranty...

As long as you go with the big brands, you should be fine. You should realize that most of these RAM "brands" are only assemblers. The original memory manufacturers supply their RAM chips to the assemblers, who then put it onto different sticks for various desktops and laptops. That being said, my personal preference is Micron memory chips and Crucial is the only brand that always uses Micron (since Micron is their parent company).

I would however avoid generic brands of RAM. Like others have said, get something that has lifetime warranty, and also, if you upgrading your existing RAM (i.e. adding another DIMM/SODIMM, make sure to match the memory latencies)

    Good Luck!

I think people in this thread are saying brand doesn't matter, or matters less with laptops, but is more important with desktops because of the bus speeds? Users are more likely to overclock a desktop.

When my D901C arrives I intend to overclock, after gaining more knowledge on the subject. I don't know why, it probobly doesn't make sense for me to overclock a laptop but I'm just compelled to do it.

Anyways, I bought kingston memory because its a quality brand. I'm hoping I can increase the bus above 800MHZ.
