Why not just add an electronics plan to your Home Owners/Renters insurance. I added it to mine and its only like 5 bucks a month and full replacement value of the component when purchased. I havent had to use it yet but some of my friends have and they got their checks pretty fast.

 What's the OM inside scoop.

Some of these "fine print" warranties have hidden stipulations or requirements that make payouts almost impossible. Others are pretty straightforward; if it breaks (for whatever reason), it gets replaced by the same or equivalent.

Well I bought a laptop from BB back in 1/20/07.

Heres the rundown from my reciept:

$749.99 Gateway mt6707 (2 gb memory, 120 gb hd, 32 bit vista home, dvd/cdrw, b/g wireless, no webcam)
    $6.00 California Recycling Fee
    $229.99 2 year $600-$800 ADH NTBk psp
    $49.99 Notebook Cooling Pad
    $70.00 8.25% tax
    $1,105.97 Total

The reason I bought the plan was because the fine sales girl  and her bouncy tight , were distracting me and I kept agreeing to everything she was selling me.

Anyway back around December last year it started to be really slow, it took 10 minutes just to start and opening IE was getting to be a pain.

I remembered I had the ADH, I reread the fine print, I discovered it only covers the computer if it dies on me, it doesn't cover software issues. I called BB and they told me the same thing, I told them my computer was slow, the lady on the phone was trying to sell me a computer diagnostic and repair package for $120!! Man, they just want my money, I told her NO! I called Gateway and they wouldn't help me because the warranty only covers 1 year and they wanted to charge me $49.99 to talk to helpdesk. I told them HELL NO!! I couldn't even understand "Billy", he claimed to be from Arkansas ( I asked where they were at). I think he was from India, because he sounds like the Indian store owner down my block, he kept saying, "I see, How may I help you, No problem, my friend". Plus he didn't know what he was doing, kept putting me on hold and referred to his manager.

I looked online about the BB ADH I bought and found a mountain of complaints. Ranging from BB/Geek Squak Managers obnoxiously treating customers, to implying that customers purposely broke the computer to get a replacement computer. The warranty does not cover an "ACT OF GOD"

Well, 2 weeks ago, I had my laptop on my dining table plugged in to a wall socket. My Dog was running around and got caught on the power cable, sending my laptop flying like a frissbee at full speed, crashing on my tiled kitchen floor. It broke, the monitor hinge came loose, cracked screen, the cd tray came out, the keys went flying, and the hard drive popped out.

I took it to BB the next day 1/17/09, waited and stood in line for 1 hour!!! I went to the Geek squad counter with my reciept, the manager looked it over, and SMIRKED! like I did it on purpose, because the warranty on the ADH was going to expire in 3 days!!! He said he would have to send it to a diagnostic repair center to see if they could repair it, and he tried to sell me a $90 Data Recovery Service to recover my files if my hard drive was retrievable. I told him NO, because I back up all my files, music, and pictures on a 500 gig external usb hard drive. He gave me a case number, told me to call in 2 days to see the status, and he even gave me a website so I could check the progress of my "REPAIR" online - yeah right.

So I waited for 2 days, called BB, the manager wasn't there, and no one could help me because he was handling my case, because it was a special case. I'm thinking, "what so special about my laptop"? I also check the website and it said, "In transit", what the hell does that mean, the repair center didn't get it yet? Well finally, I called 4 days later, and lo and behold, its the manager, he checks my file and puts me on hold. I'm thinking to myself, "he'll probably tell me it was an ACT of God, or I did it on purpose and its not covered". The manager says, " the diagnostic center has concluded that the computer is irrepairable and you can head down to BB and pick out a same or comporably priced laptop".

Yahooooooooo!! I went to BB and immediately looked for a laptop that had the same $749.99 price of my original laptop. I found one, a sony VAIO NS series with webcam, 4 gig memory, 64bit Vista Home Premium, dvd/dvd-rw, a/b/g/n wireless, 350 gig hd.

When I pointed it out to the Manager he looked like he was about to have a heart attack , the laptop was priced $899 the previous week and it was on sale the day I came in. He went back to the stock room, got my laptop, entered register and on the reciept it said $749.99 VAIO NS laptop and next to it - PAID ADH PSP PLAN REPLACEMENT!!!

I walked out of there without paying a single penny, YEAH, STICK IT TO BB!! The warranty has been fullfiled with a replacement laptop, thank god I didn't have to go through an arduous repair and replacement process. I love my laptop.
