Best Hard Drive HDD Options 750GB/ 640GB/ Momentus XT 500G?

I'd love to get an SSD but I typically have a lot more storage requirement and planning multiple OSes on partitions.

So I am looking at a 9.5 mm HDD that will seat in T61 & X61T (Both Middleton BIOS flashed for SATA 2). I might use it in both now & then.

Since 750 G is the highest.. in 9.5 mm I'd prefer that as long as performance & reliability of disks is fine.
I believe WD, Hitachi (Not easily available on market online these days) Seagate & Toshiba (not great reviews) have 750 G.

Ofcourse WD 640 Blue is pretty popular in general and so is the Hitachi 500GB 7200 among thinkpadders.

So recent / updated thoughts, experiences, recommendations and/or threads of interest that have relevant info to help me decide.

Best combination of storage capacity and performance is the Western Digital Scorpio Black 750 GB.

I would go with either an SSD or a Seagate Momentus Hybrid XT.

Both of them perform leaps and bounds over traditional hdds in my experience.

Was thinking Momentus XT but seems to be getting mixed reliability reports.

Depends on your usage. The momentus xt is great for faster windows startup and speediness on commonly used applications, but the western digital scorpio black will be more well-round. If you need more space, then go for the wd. If you want a little more speed, the momentus xt

Ive got the Momentus XT 500G now for about 6months and it's been rock solid. Most of the problems I do hear around are with Apple users.

Took Scorpio Black as primary HD. No problems so far.
Maybe I'll upgrade when they have a 1TB SSD that sells for a hundred bucks. heh.
