Who has the best notebook screen? I've been researching and looking between the thinkpad vs HP business vs Dell Latitude. I've been looking at asus at a lesser extent but I was really wondering, which of them has the best screen? mean this is probably one of the most important parts of a laptop right?

From what I read, Thinkpads and Latitudes have mediocre screens while Asus have sublime screens. Is that right?

Wow, I never thought of that. I heard the Latitude ATG has very bright screen that can be used outdoors. I've also heard some people said that Sony's have very good screen too.

As far as the Latitude, people say their screens are not bright enough, although recent rumor suggest Dell has fixed this problem. The thinkpads have very good screens as far as I've read.

The Asus G2Pc and G2s also have among the best screens. In fact, anandtech did a small laptop sceen shoutout and the G2Pc came out on top.

It doesn't work that way... ThinkPads and Latitudes have matte screens while most Asus notebooks glossy... obviously the direct comparison is difficult since both have their pros and cons.

Matte screen are not as bright and vivid as glossy screens but they have almost no reflection unlike glossy screen, which are usually quite reflective... so it depends on how you will be using it... and it comes down to a personal preference at the end.

Well I guess we can't compete between the two type (matte vs glossy). However, we can still rank them in two separate groups. I like the macbook's display compared to an old D620 and T60 screen I've seen (all matte displays).

On a side note, I heard LED backlights are working their way into notebooks, replacing the old ccfl technology. I know most of the advantages are not visual but anyone see an led backlit display and can compare?

    The advantages are purely visual!
Todays normal LCD with CCFL will only produce approx 75% of the RGB color gamet. LCD with LED backlights increases that to approx 110%+
Realism and better color depth will increase dramatically in these new screens. These new screens will be closest LCD have ever come to picture quality of a HD CRT.

To see one you can try BestBuy. They may carry the Sony TZ soon and may have the Asus U1

Fujitsu's screens are also very highly acclaimed. As Dreamer noted, it really depends on what you will be using the screen for and under what conditions.

The Dell ATG is very attractive, if you are willing to absorb the extra price for a brighter screen.

The Qosmio and Sony VAIO screens (you need to choose premium lines though) are also very highly rated.
