Hi! My laptop currently has 2 slots and has 8 gigabytes of RAM but I'm planning to upgrade my RAM for some heavy gaming (BF3 and etc) however I'm not sure to which one. How much memory do different RAM card's hold (2GB?3GB?4GB?) as of 2011-2012? If you had the money and were to choose one RAM card in the world which RAM card would you buy for your laptop?

8 GB to be honest is all you need for gaming. Anymore and it is a waste per se or you are getting diminishing returns. The reason to go beyond 8 GB right now is if you are doing a lot of encoding or raw rendering. Most games are able to be rendered around 2-4 GB these days and that is from titles like BF3.

RAM also unlike anything else is often not needed to be constantly upgraded since RAM doesn't change much for a while. As long as you are in DDR3 territory, most stock RAM you are using should be sufficient. The reason to go better is if it is affordable or you want to stick native performance with your CPU if you can. Otherwise, the performance difference between speeds are almost negligible. Capacity-wise, it should be sufficient.

Depends. RAM capacities hasn't changed for a while. They vary from 1 GB to 8 GB per card.

Firstly, no such thing as RAM card... Secondly, pretty much all RAM is same.. Brands like Crucial, OCZ and Kingston are the best ones and I believe crucial offers life-time warranty. Warranty is pretty much the only thing that differentiates RAM. I'd say Hyper X RAM from Kinsgton is quite good... Got it as free upgrade when I bought the laptop :)

Well they are called DIMM's, which are called sticks but I don't think it matters if you call it a card or a stick really...

Huh? Maybe this pre-dates you, but I had a RAM card in my Apple IIe. So RAM cards did exist at one time.

In today's nomenclature, although usually people refer to memory as plain "RAM", sticks, or DIMMs, but it is not unheard of to hear the phrase RAM card every so often.

I've looked much into RAM sticks, I would suggest you to go with known brand, as mentioned. Also some warranty would be nice. But since you allready have 8GB of RAM, that is more then enough for even heavy gaming. 16GB would be nice, if it wasn't for the price thorugh :D
