If the choice is between 8GB and Intel 320 or 4GB and Crucial M4, I'd go with the 8GB and Intel 320.
the M4 will be a bit faster than the Intel here and there but overall the difference will be small.

Yeah not a bad advice Phil. I`d say it`s 50/50 of what you choose. Either way is fine.

I just bought the M4 for $458. It was a good deal so I went for it. It should ship 5/10/11 and I hope I get it that week. Thanks everyone for the advice. I will update you all with the results.
BTW I just got my 750GB WD Scorpio in. It cost $110. I will do some benchmarks on that too, all once I get my M17x. -
Thank you all, this thread has been very helpful. I ended up getting the Crucial C300 256gb for $385 (+$35 shipping) which is a good price, compared to the Intel 320 300gb for which I was going to pay $560! Also, I prefer 34nm NAND since its a proven design compared to the newer 25nm NANDs.
-
You got a faster drive which should last longer (34nm vs. 25nm NAND). Nice deal!

This $385 price is available on Ebay for a new 256 GB without shipping cost or tax. Great seller feedback.
Very tempting but I already have my needed complement of SSDs.
Edit: Too good a deal. I bought it. There were 9 available 20 min ago when I started looking at it and I bought the last one. -
