The Newegg price for the Vertex 2 is quite sharp, for the Intel it's not.

I don't think that you'll find the Intel drive for less than that at any legitimate retailer. Amazon sells the drive for $5 more.

Oh right, Intel's price has been going up lately. I guess it's popular.

By the way, Vertex LE might be interesting too. It has Sandforce 1500 controller.

Hopefully in Q3, Intel will drop some new drives with lower prices. Mass adoption of SSDs isn't going to happen with the current pricing.

SO what's the best drive in terms of SPEED and RELIABILITY for a drive bigger than 150GB? Intel 160GB? Crucial C300? I plan to get one before the end of June. Any of the 256GB drive like Corsair's 256GB (I've read this is the Samsung controller drive, also used by Dell in the notebook lineup) that will be faster than the Intel 160GB?

Speed wise, I'm looking at _writing and reading_ SMALL (thousands of 4kb file) and HUGE (~1GB file) here. What do you guys think? So far, I'm thinking of getting the Intel 160GB, but the space is too small. I'd prefer something around 250GB, but none of the reviews I saw show much reliability and confidence like the Intel drive.

No, the old corsairs won't be close to being faster than the intel drive. Corsair's force line will be though. They have sandforce controllers in them.

From what I've seen lately, either go sandforce or intel for controllers in your SSD for speed.

If reliability is your priority I would advise Intel.

Sandforce controllers are a bit faster in benchmarks but they haven't been available long enough to say anything about their long term reliability.

I can understand you want to sell your SSD. Cross posting in several threads is not allowed though. If you want to promote your ad please use your signature.

Thank you all. Thank you ifti, but I'm in the U.S. I'll have to go with the Intel 160GB.

I just ordered an OCZ Vertex 2 50GB. I'm going to see how it fares in my netbook while I'm saving up for a new laptop.
