For notebook users with 40 pin eDP motherboards (no G-SYNC) what are the best aftermarket screens? Were there any panels that stood head-and-shoulders above the rest for their generation?

For example: an IPS panel with great refresh rate, or TN panel with really good sRGB gamut. Just looking for opinions on the best panels of past and present.

It is limited per model.,and really the only we have testes so far. There is a sticky post for all laptop lcd upgrades and mxm upgrade and etc. Best is there.

Lcd wise the better gamut color is always gives everyone a "blown" away affect" with the it looks soooooo GOOD. I admit is is godly.

The IPS panel does look really good, especially glossy. I just wish I could find one able to overclock to 90Hz stable for gaming and is eDP compatible. Sadly info about that seems quite rare.

I hate glossy lol, renders my laptop useless unless I use it at night.

    N156HHE-GA1 - A 1080p TN panel with great contrast (>1000:1) and colours (100% sRGB, 89% AdobeRGB)

Most modern 4K laptop panels with a RGB pixel matrix (NOT RGBW aka fake 4K), have excellent colour reproduction, contrast and brightness (300 - 400 nits). The only downside is that they suffer from high pixel response times which means they can exhibit ghosting while gaming.
