    hey guys!
Recently i have decided to replace the stock speakers in my m11x mostly because the right one doesn't work anymore. Instead of just going with replacement m11x speakers, i kinda wanted to use a better speaker set. So my question to you guys is, which laptop do you think has the best onboard speakers that i could mod into my laptop? size and that stuff won't matter because i'll work around it lol (no bass sets either because my laptop can only do left/right channels)

    Thanks!

The speaker drivers have less than 5% effect on how good the system will sound overall - this is a waste of time and money.

Replace with original parts or leave it alone.

Even if you hear a difference it won't necessarily be 'better' - just different - and possibly more pleasing to you. The total design of the audio subsystem is more important to the perceived sound than the physical driver used.

(I'm assuming you can only put in the same size drivers...).

good speakers are like lenses. in order to be good they have to be big. that's why 12mp cameras in cell phones have incredible crappy quality when compared to any dslr even with 2mp.
in order to understand why speakers need to be big you need to understand how they work.
if you really want good quality get external speakers.

i understand how speakers work and i know that size matters when it comes to the drivers and such. This is not a waste of time and money because the replacement speakers are more expensive than alot of replacements for other laptops. I have external speakers as well but they are not always on me when i need sound. Like i said in the original post the size is not an issue because i will make it fit, so if a laptop had slightly larger drivers therefore sounds better, that's what i was after, or if a laptop just had higher quality speakers that won;t end up dying on me.

i also realize the speakers are only as good as the signal they are receiving, but i just going to look past that at the moment because modding my laptop is a fun project, so disregard how good the sound card i have is.

Your call. But if the OEM's are more expensive; definitely get different drivers.

But you're fooling yourself that even bigger speakers will do much for the sound quality. Or how good the sound card is... or how rigid their enclosures are.. (it's the complete package that counts - not any specific part/spec - and the only thing that counts in the end is how good/natural it sounds to a (trained/non-trained) individual).

I know it will have almost no effect on perceivable difference but it'll be a fun little project and a way to get both speakers working for less than either buying m11x speakers, or having dell do it. I just wanted to know if there was a laptop out there that had higher quality speakers inside. i heard altec lansing ones were good and i found some for $4. Other brands you guys know of i should look for?

The best speakers I have ever heard were no names (the equipment behind them was worth a small fortune...).

You have already spent too much time on this (this is fun? lol... :) ), at $4 I would say you've found what you were searching for.

Hope the work as well as you want them to.

    Good luck.

That's certainly not true. However, there is some correlation to size and quality when it comes to woofers if you consider the diaphragm and that they're not the ported variety. Otherwise, size is irrelevant.

sure because we all see vey high performance and professional speakers that can even fit in our hands. oh wait...

you might try harman kardon speakers. some notebooks have it and sound is great. some also have band and oflusen ones like the ASUS N73Jf but I doubt it would fit the m11x.
