I'm wondering what the best processor is that is supported by the 940GML chipset. My laptop is a Toshiba A135.

believe you can only go to the Core Solo's. Core Duo's would need 943GML or higher.

Officially the 940GML only supports Socket M Celerons and Core Solos, thus the fastest officially supported processor is a 2.166GHz Core Solo T1600.

However, if the 940GML is anything like the GL960 (which has a good track record of supporting officially unsupported processors), you'll be able to drop in any Socket M C2D. But yeah, T1600 if you want to play it safe.

940GML takes Socket M cpus, the T5550 is Socket P.

Nonetheless, I'm skeptical that it'll work. A guy just posted about a failed dual-core update to a 940GML in an Acer something-or-another. Granted that's just one sample of 940GML, but it doesn't really bode well for the rest of 'em. Then again, if it does work, all the more power to you.

Yeah.. but if the processor doesn't work I'll just resell it. It's really cheap on ebay. Right now my laptop has a Celeron M processor and I'm concerned about longevity. It works fine for basic aps but not much else. I got the laptop for $150 though so hard to complain about that.

Now if someone knows where I can get a T1600 that would be helpful.. I can't find any place, even ebay. In fact, not even intel.com recognizes its existence.. they say the highest one produced was the T1400..
