    Best way to test new HDD?

    Just wondering what programs/methods you recommend for testing out new HDD's to see if they're reliable or defective.

    Here's what I've done so far (both passed):
    HD Tune - Full HDD Error Scan
    SpeedFan - Full HDD Test

    I think you got health covered now.

    Next I would check performance. HDTune and Crystal Disk Mark for example.

    You can run Windows' error checking as well. Chances are though that your new drive is working a-ok.

    No HD I've used is ever deemed 'reliable'. That is why I have my most important data on at least 8 different media in at least three locations.

    As to 'defective'? I use it until it dies, or until its capacity is too small to worry about with anymore.

    When it is dead - the hammer is my best friend and the HD's worst enemy. :)

    Oh yeah - what software checks for this reliably? lol...
