Hey all. I've decided to upgrade my Samsung R560 rather than dishing out the money for a new laptop (loosely decided.. I guess it depends how upgradeable this laptop turns out to be). Some advice would be greatly appreciated!
Currently have:
Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 @ 2.0Ghz
4GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS 256mb
(Full specs here: Samsung R560 Laptop NP-R560-AS02UK - Laptops Direct)
The three things above are what I'd like to upgrade most, but I'm unsure how to go about finding out which other options are 'compatible' with the Samsung R560. For example, I know I can't use an Intel i7 processor because it's 64bit only, and I've also heard that 3-4GB RAM is the most that can be used on a 32bit system too, so this seems like my first concern in regards to upgrading my laptop.
In short, my questions are:
How do I go about making my laptop able to run 64 bit Vista/Win7?
How can I tell which components are compatible with my laptop?
Any suggestions for a better graphics card? (Am I correct in thinking that the best possible card my laptop can run is the NVIDIA 8800GT?)
Thanks in advance.![]()

Graphics card is soldered or proprietary so can't be upgraded, you can't use an I7 because it's physically different to the core2 and would not fit.
Yes you can use windows 64bit, but unless you need that extra ram (you would know if you would) then there is no point.
If you feel your machine is too slow then the best ways for the average user to improve performance is to upgrade the HDD (or just clean it out) and then perhaps the CPU. Neither of these will help with games.
If its games performance then ocing your graphics card or getting a new system are your only options.
Best way to upgrade a samsung r560?
