just curious what you all think.

Vista just seems to bog down my 80gb 5400 drive. it just seems like its always chuggin along to get things done.

if i buy a larger, and faster 7200rpm HD, will i notice much difference? I know laptop drives are just slower, but YIKE

Of course some improvement w/7200 but your descreption concerns me, unless you are a real enthusiast who pays attention. Chugging does not sound like a 5400, your RAM is good, can you run something like HD Tach to get your read speed. Will help maybe see what the problem is or is not. Also as always and more important than anything, do you defrag!

Your #'s are in line your about 4MB/s below my average speed, but your burst is low mine 89MB/s and CPU usage high 11.7% mine 3-4%. Have defraged? If you have not your new 7200 will be faster but still chug.

Good link and of course 7200 is fast but this is not a test of a fragmented drive? Am I missing it or what? Defrag the drive, see how it works, make a choice. Of course 7200 is faster and the point is? 5400 should not chugg! Come on Guys!

when done run HD Tach, CPU usage I expect a drop, burst maybe also, but we will know how slow your HDD is?
