My Western Digital My book home editions power supply isn't working. I think the fuse inside the adapter blew because when i plugged it in today, a loud pop sound occured and the drive didn't work? Is it possible for me open the adapter and replace the fuse? I got a lot of data on that drive so i need it ASAP as i just installed windows. Any help would be great. Thanks.
P:S : I do smell something when i go near the ac adapter.. it smells like burnt fuse...

Hmm, I'm not sure if these AC adapters even have fuses inside them these days. I'd bet this is a more permanent failure. Even if there was a fuse, I haven't seen an AC adapter that's particularly easy to crack open... ever. I doubt there's a fuse inside the enclosure too. You can always try to crack either unit apart and take a look, though...
Assuming you can't, you can always transfer the drive to another enclosure (assuming it hasn't been damaged by whatever electrical mishap occurred). Should just be a standard SATA hard drive that'll fit into another other standard SATA enclosure. -
Assuming the drive is OK, the easiest thing to do would be to get a new adapter.

Like Biri-Biri and Mr.Yoshii have written, you can either search for a replacement AC adaptor, or purchase a 3.5" SATA to USB/eSATA enclosure.
Might be your chance to upgrade to eSATA, if you've been waiting for a sign.. -
The drive already has e-sata so i'm not "upgrading".. I know that my best bet is to buy a new adapter and i even found an adapter on Amazon UK , but problem is its a little expensive as its 18 pounds.. the whole drive had costed 85 pounds... Is there any other reliable online place like amazon from where i can get the adapter? Preferably it should be cheaper too. If this would help.. the adapter has an output of 12V and 1500mA.

If the plug is standard, 12v adapters are probably not hard to come by. 1500mA may be a problem, but you might even want to try looking around your abode for something that matches the spec. I know my Netgear AP has a 12v 1000mA adapter, so some other household appliance might give you the full 1500mA?

i have a netgear adapter but it cannot connect. The pin head is too small... is there anyway i can open up the old adapter?

I don't know if you're still working on this but I would cut the cable+jack from the AC adapter and find a power supply from an old desktop (you'll find a good 12V in there) and make your own power supply for your external harddrive (slice the cable from your old AC adapter).
You'll need to check the back of the original AC adapter to see which one is (+) and which one is (-) so you can connect the cable+jack properly and I'd recommend a multimeter to test the whole setup before you plug it into the external harddrive.
Big problem with my external hard drive
