The ability to boot DOS and other legacy relics is going to disappear.
The industry needs to kick Micro$haft where the sun don't shine. They are the Nazis driving this, and for self-serving reasons. They need to be taken down and begin following orders rather than giving them. Their being in the driver's seat is like the tail wagging the dog. -

Every vendor thinks of locking it down to prioritize safety and security. We will be forcefully need to accept that fact.
Future gadgets will be the beginning of Skynet taking over our lives in reality. -

Or is it done for the same old two reasons as for thousands of years:
Money & Power (control)
Creating a problem to sell the solution is just still working as damn good as it did back then.
