I dunno if there are better systems out there, or if this system will even work, but...

Black & Decker has a new Lithium-ion battery setup that can be used to power both their tools, and other electronics when coupled with an inverter that has USB and AC plugs.
I figure you can buy a couple of batteries and maybe get 30-60 min of battery life out of them, but then not only use them on the go, but at your work bench.

Here is the 2 prong AC/USB inverter setup:

This is the part that I don't know if it will work or not. I know some poer bricks have 3 prongs, so you may need to buy a 2 prong adapter to hook it in.

    Here is the battery:

I dont know how long it will actually keep your laptop running,

Interesting. Thanks I didn't know about this. These batteries are the ones that are designed by A123, and are some pretty cool batteries with great power to weight ratios.

Check out this for an example of what these batteries can do in a transportation setting. I know a bunch of people are also doing RC conversions with these batteries, but havent seen anyone use them for a laptop yet.

If you do go ahead and do this please post back with your results.

Here's yet another option that just came out from Duracell. It does cost a lot more at $140, but it claims 2 hours battery life for your laptops (I'm sure this is for the laptops that only sip electricity), and it also has an inverter to change your cars outlets over to AC power.

Just checked out Amazon, and they have it for $100:

If there's any reason this one is better it's because of the automobile inverter and that it's actually meant to power laptops with 3 prongs.

On Amazon's similar items it seems Xantrex has something just as similar as the Duracell inverter/battery. I wonder if they are all just rebranded versions of the same thing.

The Xantrex battery seems to get the best reviews from people only charging PDAs and cell phones, and mediocre reviews from laptop users.
