While restarting after a system restore I got a the high pitched blue screen of death "beep", then a blank display. All the l.e.d.s and fan are on. Thinking about reseating the RAM, has anyone had a success by doing this?
-
No BIOS screen?
-
-
Possibly due to overclocking? (I'm not a GPU expert
).
-
yeah, you probably burnt out your graphics card.
There is only one way to determine if its the graphics card or the motherboard which fried.
Take out both memory cards and power up the system. If it beeps, like its supposed to then your motherboard works.
If no beeps occur than yoru motherboard burned out.
The go 7200 in your laptop is an integrated card, so whatever the case, you would have to replace the motherboard, which is pretty costly.
Your probable better off parting out teh system and buying a new one.
K-TRON -
give this a try
1)take out the battery pack and unplug AC power
2)hold the power button for 30 seconds or more
3)now only plug in the AC power and try turning it on again -
thanks guys, well I removed the memory and booted it up, and it beeped. Reseating the memory didn't do anything either. So I'm guessing the gpu crapped out, if its integrated into the motherboard then I guess I'm sol =/
-
My go 7200 crapped out on me aswell on my old dv2000. It wasnt even OC'd
btw check if your notebook is in the recall page. Free replacement if it is, even if your warranty is expired by 1 year -

Ok, this happened to me while I was doing my processor replacement/surgery this past weekend. K-tron, I think it was, suggested I check for unplugged wires. took the top portion off and sure as crap on pig, my keyboard wire was unplugged. the safety mechanism shut the thing down automatically.
that caused a complete shutdown, though. if you are still seeing lights on the keyboard/led strip, disregard the drivel. -
last night I booted it up and it beeped 4 times (long) I think? Does anyone know the diagnosis?
-
as far as i know, HP Bios POST error messages are:
2 Beeps - CPU Thermal Protection went on and prevents booting
3 Beeps - No CPU/ Failed CPU
4 Beeps - Power failure
5 Beeps - Memory failure
6 Beeps - GPU Failure
7 Beeps - System board failure
8 Beeps - BIOS Checksum error
don't remember others.. -
its not just the number of beeps, its also the length of the beeps.

scroll down to phoneix bios codes -
thanks flip, well supposively phoenix bios is a 3 beep diagnosis, yet my comp beeps 4 times, all equal lengths. lol.
:sigh:
guess i'll keep researching... -
Double check your RAM is seated properly. Also try only 1 stick installed.
Im not sure why your getting 4 beeps, its usually 3. -
Flipfire, your information is misleading since HP usually uses their own BIOS
-
HP uses the phoenix BIOS. You will even see it on boot up
plus here:
Its always been 3 beeps for pavilions, not sure why your getting a 4th -
Update: okay here are the proper HP phoenix beep codes
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...n&cc=us&dlc=en&product=12455&docname=bph07107
It actually has 4 beeps listed.. weird? Mine and other people that had beeping boots only had 3
edit: NVM i just realised its for a desktop, but see anyway if the beeps could possibly be similar
heres another http://bioscentral.com/beepcodes/phoenixbeep.htm -
hummm..) pardon, i take my words back))
