i bought a package of 5 cd-rw and 10 of dvd-rw for some applications that needed to run from cds like ubuntu, which i can format and use it with the new one for clean install. i have a one cd-rw that doesn't work properly. Other cd-rw and dvd-rw are fine but only that one doesn't work. i don't know what i did. It doesn't recognized when i boot it up with some ubuntu on it. and the my computer freezes when i either try to open it or format it. Is this cd broken or is there a way to fix this problem and make this cd-rw work again?

When that happens it is usually because the CD is damaged.

Even sunlight is capable of damaging it...it may not be visibly damaged. Not just sun either, I've seen my fair share of optical discs fail...enough that I stopped trusting them as a backup medium for more than 24 hours.

I think you might just need to bite the bullet and make another disc man... Those things are cheaply made, and are often defective.

When you make the next one use some sort of checksum reader to make sure the download wasn't the problem. Usually with linux live cd's that's the process I regret skipping.

Looks like i'll need more soon. Then any recommendations for the manufacturer? i used the ones from memorex.
I always use checksum for those cds. I installed the ubuntu and downloaded them plenty of times.

Memorex is good. I usually just buy spindles of 100 whenever they are on sale regardless of brand. Store brands are usually just as good. At least once a month there is a deal advertized in the sunday paper.
