I recently purchased a 2GB stick of OCZ RAM pc2 6400 for my laptop to upgrade from 3-4 gigs. The problem is that on bootup the screen is completely black and the computer is dormant even though it is on. I know the type of RAM is correct and i've tried taking it in and out numerous times. PC specs are in sig. thanks

Have you tried booting up only with the 2gb stick?

Make sure the battery isnt inserted when changing RAM.

i've tried booting with every combination of memory sticks and still the same results. maybe the RAM shipped faulty? unless there is some little trick to installing memory that i'm not aware of

You're upgrading from 3-4GB ram to how much!? 5-6GB? Or what are you talking about? :)

When you tested all combinations, what combinations did work and which did not!? Tell us more!

Does your BIOS support the amount of ram you want to install? Do you have the latest BIOS?

But it sure does sound like DOA.

I think he's replacing a 1gb stick from a 3gb machine with a 2gb stick for a total of 4gb. That said unless you buy guaranteed compatible and TESTED ram like crucial et al sells just because it has all the right specs on paper does NOT mean it will work. If it boots fine with the original ram but is a no go with the new stick alone or with either of the originals its etiher DOA or not compatible for whatever odd reason.
