This is common and i feel like a newb. Glad to see things seem to be much more standard then they used to be. I took the face plate off my dvd burner to end my concern of how the button and light placements dont match up with other drives. With the face plate off I can see the offsets on the plate and that the actual drive matches up with other drives.

Are the tabs/connections pretty standard? Its seems like it is but wanted to make sure.

So what burners are available? Any of them known to be better then another model? I searched around found Read Only for under 100 dollars on amazon, buy.com. As far as non burners alot of people say get them on ebay for 100 bucks so i was suprised to see externals for 100 and internals for less.

Your choice is pretty limited to Panasonic UJ-220/210 - almost $200 (if you have standard connector) and LG GBW-T10N - close to $270 (if you have SATA connector) :) At least this is what I know.
