If watching Blu-Ray movies is not the intention, is there any other benefit at this time to have a Blu-Ray drive in a notebook? Will games and software be migrating to this format soon?

Dont bother if your not gonna use Blu-ray, you can always upgrade it yourself later. Its gonna be a while till games and software switch over (or if at all)

Bluray slimline drives only cost under $100 now anyway

I'm in the same position as Grey Machine but i have the overwhelming urge to upgrade the optical drive on my p7805u simply because it is possible to do such a thing!

Well, there always is the 25/50GB data capacity of single- and dual-layer Blu-Ray discs for file storage.

I should have been specific, I was only referring to Blu-Ray readers actually. :)

I think the cost of writable media is still kind of high, but I suppose it's an option if you're willing to pay for the convenience.

    :D

I'm probably skipping BRD in my next purchase. Doesn't seem like it's too useful for me anyway.
