I just installed an aftermark Blu-Ray drive in my Asus G51VX. I knew beforehand that new software I'd have to buy would be needed. What are some suggestions?

PowerDVD and TotalMedia Theater are about your only options unfortunately. PDVD is about twice the cost of TMT. TMT would freeze on my computer, and thankfully PDVD 10 came with my HP laptop, so I'm set!

Does VLC support blue ray playback?

I think if you get the AnyDVD HD it will let you rip and play Blu-Ray too on any player. But it's like $100. -
Why does blu ray playback and the codec cost? Can someone explain it?

Roxio Cineplayer supports Bluray 3D, and if you look around for coupons, depending on the time, you can get it direct for about 35usd (I did).
I've used it on my laptop (Vaio SC), and so far, everything is working perfectly (except for 3D, since my TV only supports nVidia 3D Vision, and not AMD HD3D).
EDIT: though the same software on my desktop (not a laptop...) works fine with 3D Vision.
