    Hi forum,

I been looking around for a replacement bluray drive for my notebook?
I know my drive is a sata

I have seen people say they are pretty universal if you change the faceplate on install.
    Is this true?

How do I know the drive will fit my notebook?

There are only two sizes of optical drives. 9.5mm tall or 12.7mm tall. Look up your notebook or current optical drive model and it should tell you which height of drive you have. The faceplate isn't always universal. But you can get a faceplate for the new drive to closely match you notebook's motif.

You many not even need to replace the faceplate. If you're technical enough, you should remove your current optical drive and try to remove the faceplate. Then post a photo of it. We can usually tell if it is sort of universally compatible with other optical drives.

Also, it would help to know what notebook model we are talking about here.
