    Hi.

I plan to buy HP Pavilion HDX9000. It includes HD DVD drive, while my HD movies are all in BD format (because I own PS3). Also I don't like HD DVD (sorry!)
So, I plan to replace HD DVD with BD when I get the laptop (HP normally includes the manual to open your laptop). I am thinking of buying Sony VAIO AR series BD drive spare part and installed it on the laptop. Is this possible? Will the motherboard recognise it?
I might make use of that HD DVD by making it external (but don't know how)

It may be but I'm 98% sure it isnt possible because both notebooks have different case and disk drive dimensions.

I'd keep em separate. Get the best of both worlds! You get Matrix in HD-DVD and Planet Earth on BluRay. That's what I'd do personally, and I own a PS3. It just makes sense to me. That way, you'll be able to watch all the HD movies you want. Sure, you might not be able to run your BluRay movies, but I'd rather watch those on a big HDTV than on a laptop anyway and forgo the hassle of replacing the drive itself.

Problem: I live in UK (region B), with Japanese PS3 (region A). I would have loved to have a player with region B.

I mainly use my PS3 for backward compatibility to Japanese PS2 games. Secondly, I don't have HDTV. So, I really need that laptop to play BD

Why not just buy a laptop that has a Blu-ray drive. I think replacing that drive is going to be a nightmare unless you go external.

thanks for the suggestion. I normally only buy laptop product from HP.

Also I don't want to put my beloved BD drive outside while HD DVD, which I hardly know, snuggly rest inside my laptop

HP normally put a manual to open and replace your notebook on their website. So, that wouldn't be a problem.

Just wondering, though, if all motherboard can accept and recognise BD drive.

You can always shoot HP an email asking them if that particular model can be outfitted with a BluRay drive. ;)

    hahahaha.....they are helpless...
it seems that somebody else is controlling them. Although one of them said that "Although I wholeheartedly agree with you that BD is superior than HD DVD, HP currently does not support BD" It seems that the bosses are pro-HD DVD. And then he suggests that I should have a look at HP Business laptop. Goodness, to my surprise HP has released BD notebook, but not on HP pavilion. I'll wait till their HP Pavilion 20 inch have BD. or if not, if my current pavilion zd7000 break down suddenly, I'll buy Sony Vaio. Toshiba is out of my life. I used to support them and was one of my favourite brand.

BTW, they never answered my question regarding my intention of buying BD spare part from Sony Vaio, and fitted it to that laptop
