Hi, I just ordered a new computer and noticed that it has Bluetooth capabilities. Can anyone clarify what this will do for me? Like, I know that blue tooth is like wireless things but what can it do for my computer? Thanks.

You can connect Bluetooth peripherals (like printers, mice, keyboards, etc) to it as well as your cellphone, if that supports bluetooth. It is a PAN (personal area network) device.

    Lots of things!

You can use it to connect peripherals like mice and keyboards; you can pair PDAs, phones, and headsets to your computer.

    It's just a wireless standard.

Its good for those cell phone fanatics that always have to have new ring tones or backgrounds.

Instead of paying 1$-2$ per tone to download it from somewhere, you can get them for free off the internet and just use bluetooth to tranfer it to your phone. Its a good way to make your own custom ring tones aswell like I have done, so you can have somthing diffrent than everybody else.

Then its good for running a wireless keyboard/mouse if thats your thing.

Thats the main uses imo, if its a newer version of bluetooth it can run wirless sterio headphones aswell, that may be nice for a notebook if your in a public place and want to watch a movie or play a game and not have to have the cords to deal with or make everybody else listen to it.

No bluetooth is a short range protocol like 30ft max usually, and its pretty low bandwidth.

You probably could network it to your computer via bluetooth and with the right software connect to the internet via networking and using bluetooth a network bridge... but it would suck :p

Oh and also bluetooth remotes. My phone is a Sony W600, it comes preloaded with the software to use it as a remote for your computer to use it as a media remote, you can do this with other phones aswell eather by downloading compataible software, or downloading a program for you computer.

    There are also infra-red headphones

tbh if you want headphones, I would get wired still. Some of us care about SQ ;) If you must have wireless capabilities, then go ahead I suppose

OP, BT has uses like transferring stuff to and fro your mobile for example, but I was never one to just spend money just for the hell of it. If you have a use for it, all the better but I wouldn't buy something for the sake of it. I don't use the built-in bt on mine

Hold on, did I just say that?! :D ;)

    Yeah definitly SQ = wired.

BT is good for say being in a public place for a short time and how small they are, or maybe in my case at work so I cant watcha movie or play a game in the back office but help people in the front, the BT headphones look like a cell phone headset thing so nobody will be the wiser.
