Well I ordered a new laptop for my girlfriend(Inspiron 15R/M5010R) and it came into today.
I already have a Inspiron 1564 for the last couple months.
So I decided to do a boot speed test.
For both being pretty basic processor they both boot up pretty quick. The i3 is a little bit faster.
Sorry for the crappy quality.

Thanks for the video.
Just to let you know, the hard drives will also make a difference. The 500GB is likely to be faster than the 320GB, although it depends on what models were used.
Then there's also the chance of different amounts of bloatware. -
Also the 4GB will be synchronous dual channel while the 3GB will be asychronous dual channel memory.
-
yeah you guys pressed it like a second off but they would probably boot the same time. you should try not putting a password and let it load programs and see which one finishes first.
great start though but obviously more ram = win and bloatware. but looks good on the attempt. -

You should try something a bit more concrete. Like BootTimer. It's free and will give you something to compare across machines.
You can also try WinBootInfo. It gets different boot times (as in it measures differently). It's very comprehensive and lists everything that loads and in what order. 30 day free trial. -
I doubt 4GB will boot any faster than 3GB. My boot times with 2GB were as good as with 4GB.

I am not saying it will be a huge difference just a minor one with the ram speed. From what I can see from the video there is just a small difference as well.
As far as 2GB compared to 4GB usually then these are both synchronous dual channel unless 1 chip with the 2GB and single channel memory. So unless you are pressing to the page file it isn't the memory size it is the pipe width.
Also the more bloat you have the more the memory pipe then makes a difference. programs do not just load as an imge from the drive. This is done IE from hybernation and why that usually is so fast compared to boot proccess. Normally a boot requires loading the program that then uses the memory pipe quite a bit before idling etc....... -

ie, BootTimer shows different times using different storage driver.
MS AHCI driver = 18 sec +/-
Intel RST driver =12 sec +/-
though my overall boot time on both drivers is 23 seconds (power button to desktop) using stopwatch
