    Hi folks,

Has anyone being able to boot their Dell Inspiron 8200 from an external HD?

I have Norton Ghost 10 and am preparing to do a ghost image of my internal HD on an external firewire HD. I want to replace my internal HD and boot with the external one, then copy the ghost image from the external to the new internal HD.

I'm wondering if this is possible ???

I found some info about this and it seems that it could not be possible due to a BIOS limitation with the Inspiron 8200...

Another thing I found is that if I replace the internal HD with a new/blank one, the external HD could not function because of missing drivers (?)

    Comments anyone?

Best way to image a new drive is buy a "USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE" adapter and plug your new drive into it. This adapter cost me about $25. Clone your new drive from your existing drive, then install new drive into your Inspiron 8200 and it should boot fine. I used TrueImage to do the cloning on my Inspiron 8200 when I upgraded from 40Gb 5400 to 80Gb 7200 drive.
