    Hello!

I recently purchased a new notebook. (Hasee - Chinese brand, as im in china at the moment.)

    T7100 - 1.86 core duo 2
    2 gb ram 667mhz
    100 gb sata
    8600m GS - 256 meg.

    On 3dmark06 I'm only scoring 2100's.

Other people with the same card are doing much better. 2400....2700 even.

What can I do to boost performance?

I can't overclock because whenever I download and attempt to install nTunes (by nvidia) my notebook reacts terribly by rebooting constantly.

My gpu clock speed is 500.... the other is 399 , but its ddr - so its really 800. (so ive been told)

Any drivers in particular I can download??? I'm using XP. I've tried a few drivers but none will install. They say no compatible card found.

    Any help/advice is deeply appreciated!

Maybe they underclock the card to prevent overheating issues...

Is it a clean XP install? Is it SP2 fully updated?

If not, give it a clean install with XP Pro SP2.

Try installing forceware drivers from laptop2go.com, you will have to install the modified .inf file.

    Yes! it's a clean install.... SP2 - XP April integrated 2007.

I went to laptop2go - thanks for the advice.
What did you say about .inf? How do I install it? I opened it and it just comes up as a lengthy rtf file...

    Everything is explained on Laptop2go.com

    in short:
-unpack the driver file to a map.
-then overwrite the *.inf file that is already there, with the modded *.inf file

PS. this was necassary for my 8400. I don't know if it is necassary for your 8600.

OK . Great, done.... and thanks to the 165.01 drivers I'm now running 10% faster!

Now if I can just ovclerock 10% , that would be lovely... but it says I need nTune (nvidia software) but when i go to install the software (from the nvidia site it reboots at the end of install, and won't startup. There's clearly some compatibility issues or something ,ive tried several times.

    Any advice?

I thought the drivers from Laptop2go give you overclocking options in the advanced settings.

Isn't the 165.01 an older driver?!.. I though the newest stable driver was the 163.67 Drivers from Nvidia.

thanks.... the latest drivers from nvidia do not work for my laptop.... the latest drivers from laptop2go are 165.01.

Ive downloaded rivatuner, thanks for the tip!

BUT - it will not let me overclock still! Using rivatuner I slightly overclock the card, click test, thats fine - then apply.

OK. Then I see that my clock speeds are still at default......

The latest from LV2G are still the 163.44 Bioshock drivers. The 165.01 is from April. None of these modded drivers allow overclocking yet.

I personally use 163.15 since they include powermizer settings to save battery...I believe they will let you overclock but those are not best performing drivers (just average).
    Good luck.

I would try using Rivatuner. It works fine on my HP9000.

I've tried Rivatuner - still not letting me overclock. It as if my laptop / video card drivers are refusing me to overclock. I've tried ati tools also - ntunes isnt compatible so i can't use coolbits.

I feel I just need to use the right drivers.... so I'll ask this:

Can anyone suggest any other drivers???

    Thanks
