    hello.

I'm new to the laptop world. have been a desktop person all these years

however, with my new M6300 Dell laptop is it normal for the LCd screen to be brighter when the laptop is plugged into the wall outlet, as compared to when it is running on battery?

    thanks

This is actually a part of the dell quickset feature. Of you click on the quickset application, you will be able to set the screen brightness when the laptop is running on ac power, and when it is running on battery. Usually the default is full brightness on AC and 3 out of 7 when on battery. This is done to give more battery life.
However you can also override this in the power options settings in teh control panel.
Or you can press FN and the up button or something like that to increase or decrease screen brightness.
