Total amateur noob here. I've managed to destroy my computer in the process of trying to upgrade it.

In an attempt to replace the CPU, which is located on the bottom of motherboard, I broke the connector that links the fan to the mobo. It was made up of three little prongs that connected a yellow, red, and black wire.

The prong pretty much disintegrated in the process... so there's no putting that thing back on. So does anybody know I can go about fixing this? Which wires connect to which sockets?

Pic related... it's my effed up situation. Thanks in advance.

My thoughts exactly. Unless you have some super obscure laptop, it should be cheap and available.

i don't know... these things seem to fit pretty snug... the macgyver in me wants to give it a shot... i'm just not sure which wires go where... a google search clearly shows the order of the wires, but there are some inconsistencis from picture to picture

how bad of an idea is this?

Go to eBay, Google Shopping, etc, and search for "[your laptop model] fan". Typically don't need to worry about the details unless you're looking for a specific LCD panel, etc.
