I got a broken ethernet port on an HP DV1520us notebook. Which solution is better? A USB to ethernet adapter or a PCMCIA card with ethernet port? What are the pros and cons of each setup? THanks!

I would favor the USB solution because USB ports can be multiplied with a cheap USB hub, PCMCIA can't. If you need PCMCIA later on you are in trouble.
Other than if you are sure you won't need PCMCIA later, chose whichever is cheaper. -

unless USB ports are at a premium, I'd say USB, it'll be cheaper.
-
Have you tried getting a quote for repair? It should be pretty cheap to replace the connector if that's broken.
-
Yes HP wants to charge $400 which is ridiculous. Whose the hot girl in your pic? -

Just get a USB adapter if you can't repair the port. The PCMCIA adapters are not as reliable.
BTW, to the left is a very pretty electrical/computer and refrigeration engineer. (Yes, that's me.) -
star nice pic, I broke my PCMCIA port I think at the MoBo what do you recommend, and by the way you scare me! but I do want to fix as cheap as possible and the welds are so small it ain't gonna happen.

Ethernet connectors, however, only have 8 pins (only 4 used normally) and are easy to replace. They're also very common and cheap. -
Star yea I am out of luck like you said. Not worth doing maybe not possible, whatever, thanks for the comment at least.

In some cases, if the connector itself is fine, a tiny heat gun can be used to resolder all the connections.
-
Star, thanks for your help, so you think USB is better? Can you give instructions on how to repair the ethernet port if its not too much trouble? Also do you have Myspace?
-
And star not to be rude but if those pictures are nude! That much better! Ha Ha, I am joking you have a very nice picture!
Slow night on the board anything to amuse myself! -
