    Hi all,

My current laptop till my asus g73 arrives has a few problems and I was just wondering if it's more viable to sell it as it is now and maybe say spares and repairs or repair it and maybe get a better price, the only problem is I would have to do the repairs myself as labor charges are insanely high in Aussy compared to UK.

    Laptop Model: Acer 8930G

    Problems:

    Faulty CPU
Laptop Hinge broken leading to screen problems, the screen will either go fully black and I have to tweak the hinge around a bit to get it to work again.
Also has ALOT of faulty start ups
Takes hours to shut down, I can press the shut down button come back to it an hour later and it will still be shutting down ( I usually just hold down power button )
Battery time is absolutely terrible it will last half hour to 45 minutes maximum on battery saver wifi off and watching videos also minimum brightness.
Also plays L4D barely on all minimum settings with throttlestop on and heats up to levels of an oven.

Also have a question about DBAN ( something boot and nuke ) does that delete all the memory off the hard drive including operating system or just other files? If not I will just take the hard drive out and put it into my Asus G73 ( rather have ultimate than home premium ).

So should I fix it or just sell as is?

When does your new laptop arrive?
Problems like 'faulty CPU' is really hard to do something with, unless you change your CPU, but wait you sure it is faulty?

You can do a clean install of your laptop, but I would not use up my time for that is your new laptop is arriving soon! I would also be carefull to put your HDD from your old laptop to new, in case there is virus or that kind off stuff on your current laptop.

It sounds like your laptop is suffering from a bad case of DEAD. Chances are the hard disk is failing, the video cable is loose or damaged, the battery is depleted and there is probably a lot of dust suffocating the cooling system. Unless you're willing to invest a great deal of time and money into a less-than-promising machine, you should sell it.

For one, how do you know you have CPU issues?

Sounds like possible motherboard/hard drive failure among other things. You might be able to sell it on Ebay for parts only or strip it apart yourself and try to resell it.

Note that you will have to buy a new licence for Windows if you put it and the HD from one system into another.

This is assuming it will even boot up in the new system (without major or even minor, but still annoying, software issues).

Highly NOT recommended. (If you want a stable and reliable system).

new laptop arrives next 2 days hopefully, and when it comes going to sell it as parts on ebay, i see the LCD screens alone going for like $100-200. I think it COULD fit a GTX 260M, but i think due to MXM it can only take 9700M GT at best.
