Can an 100% laptop clone be build using only after market parts?

Possibly. What after market parts are you thinking about? memory, disk drive, network adapter?

video adapter, video display, cpu will depend on the laptop model/chassis.

I suppose it's possible, but it will be way more expensive than buying it from a retailer. The chassis and motherboard are probably the hardest to get hold of, followed by a decent screen.

You can buy a barebones laptop, such as one made by Clevo or MSI, and customize most of the components to your liking. The limiting factor is finding a suitable shell since there are only a handful on the market.

I'm talking about building a 100% clone laptop, this means the case, the motherboard and all other parts must be all aftermarket. This will be like building a 100% clone desktop. I ask this question because i have not seen after market laptop cases or motherboard for sale. To be clear what I mean by 100% clone is that the laptop case, motherboard, screen and all other parts are bought as after market separate items.

The answer to that is no. Clevo is as barebone as it gets, some resellers will allow you to buy the case with the motherboard, touchpad, keyboard and then you can buy the rest separately. It is still nothing like building a desktop from scratch.

The problem lies with the fact that space in a laptop is scarce and as such, there is no standard designs like for desktop parts.

Thank you for your answer, it is precisely the answer that I was searching for, because I was not able to find a aftermarket laptop case alone, or an aftermarket laptop motherboard. That meant that I could not build a laptop from scratch like I would a desktop.

Everything is proprietary to each manufacturer. Especially with the drive to make things as slim and light as possible, they basically "shrink wrap" the design as best they can.
