HI,
I am interested in building myself a barebone laptop and at the moment theres one thing that comes to mind as a question. That is..., a Barebone Laptop may or may not come with a CPU. Right?!?! (thats retorical)
1)I was wondering what type of CPU is required (What Socket)???![]()
And if they are not the same as standared CPU Sockets (ie" 775 or the like) then...
2) Were can i purchase one (for a decent price)![]()
Thanks,
Jack
P.S. I will list more questions as i come up with them, but as of now i think i got everything pretty much down pat except for this whole CPU issue.![]()

1. Socket is little different i think. Common Sense of course
2. You can purchase them at newegg. They have some models.
P.S. search in the newegg. They have modile cpus sold there -
Thanks for that quick reply but thats still not answering my q. of which type of processors i could look for since i would prefer something like a core 2 duo... would the same cpu fit in my barebone laptop as in my desktop???
Thanks,
Jack -

Nope, you cannot fit mobile cpu in the destop and it is in different socket
Ex: mobile c2o cpus: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...0000343+1389627504+1050722265&name=Core+2+Duo
dekstop c2o cpus: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...2010340343+1050722265+1389627502&name=Desktop -
Only a few notebooks on the market uses desktop CPUs... like Clevo D900C and Asus C90s use socket 775.
Most notebooks on the marker now are using mobile Socket P CPUs.
Check out www.rjtech.com for a good variety of barebones. -
and you wont find a barebone that uses a desktop for 500 or lower...check the FS section and you may find one for alot cheaper cough
-
Ok so now that i figured out how and where to buy a mobile CPU for building a barebone laptop.
My other Q. was whether there is a difference in sockets or do all mobile CPUs fit all barebone laptops bec. most users selling a barebone do not list a socket type.
Thanks,
Jack -
OK i think i found that there are 2 Mobile CPU type of sockets.
Socket M
and
Socket P
Am i correct?
Thanks,
Jack -
correct.
the most current mobile Intel CPUs are using Socket P, the previous version was Socket M.
Again, I recommend to just get a fully loaded Acer, Compaq/HP, etc... for under $500.
The truth is that if your budget is under $1000... it is usually best to get a fully configured notebook... rather than building one because you will usually not save much money (if any). -
Put thanks and advice noted -
Here are some $500 (and under) notebooks for you:
Acer - Extensa EX4420-5237 Laptop - $499
- 14.1" widescreen
- AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 processor TK-55
- 2GB DDR2 SDRAM
- DVD±RW/CD-RW drive
- 160GB hard drive
- Windows Vista Home Premium
Compaq - Presario C751NR Laptop - $499
- 15.4" widescreen
- Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core mobile processor T2330
- 1GB DDR2 memory
- DVD±RW/CD-RW drive
- 120GB hard drive
- Windows Vista Home Premium
You can easily work with these for your needs. Both are dual-core CPUs and fully loaded.
No webcam though... so go get a Logitech cam for $20.
And you can upgrade their CPUs if you want... like the Compaq can be upgraded to Core 2 Duo (socket P) if you want. -

OK... HERES THE NEXT Q. ABOUT THE BAREBONE...
The dell Insipron 1420 barebone which i will be building needs a internal Wifi adapter (card).
Would this one work? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=320109405217&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=011
What kind of specs do i have to look for when looking for an internal wifi adapter for a Dell Inspron 1420.
Thanks,
Jack
