Hello,
I was at work today when I noticed a really bad smell. I eventually tracked it down to my Vaio laptop.
There was a burning hot melted area on the back of the screen that was too hot to even touch but the screen was functioning fine.
After some research I took apart my screen, found out that the component causing the problem was the LCD inverter and I have ordered a new part.
The LCD inverter was all black and burnt, coulld any one give me some idea as to what would have caused it to get so bad. If I had left it my laptop would have probably burst into flames!
I would appreciate any feedback
Many Thanks

doubtfull it would have conducted current long enough to flame-on. but the cause could be anything including your video card failing or more likely there is an issue with the power supply to the inverter. I imagine though the most likely cause was simply a defective inverter. They do go bad for no apparent reason.
It's an easy fix as I am sure you already know...hopefully it did not smoke the backlight too. But they are not hard to replace either ya just need to be handy with a "slaughtering" iron... -
HA...I just now read your ID...hehehehe...that is FUNNY!!
