Hello folks. New poster here. I tried searching these forums (great place btw) for some answers and didn't have much luck. If there is a thread that i missed I apologize in advance for making a new thread (it's 1:30am here and i'm kinda tired lol)

I have a m1730 with dual Nvidia GeForce 8700m GT. I play a lot of video games and these cards don't really do a good job. I want to upgrading them and found a few candidates: 8800M GTX, 9800M GT, and i read somewhere that 9800m GTX is also available but got discontinued or something. Dell lists the first two as options for a new system.

My first question is which of these cards is better in terms of performance/price ratio and which one is better in general and in the long run. Last time i contacted dell (2 months ago or so) the person told me that I cannot upgrade my video cards which I found very odd. I will be contacting them again on Tuesday.

Also I've heard that I have to buy the cards directly from Dell and I can't get them anywhere else. I just wanted to make sure that this is the case.

Anyway, even though i will be contacting Dell, I just wanted to gather information from the people in the know how.

Thank you in advance and sorry about the long post

    Peace.

You will only be able to use 8800M GTX and 9800M GT which have been pulled from other M1730s... because the GPU's have special dell connectors so 9800M GTX is out of the question.....

There IS an 9800M GTX SLi card for the M1730 but it is rare to find and it isn't worth upgrading to as the performance difference from 8800M/9800M GT is mild at a mere 5-7%. At least one user on the Dell forum has it.

The card has been on sale on Dell's but it was pulled off after a while.
