    Hello,

My laptop is having trouble with it's webcam, so I wanna change it, the thing is, I dont know if the webcam internal format is standard, so I can buy any webcam (from MSI may be) from ebay and go for it.

Does anyone know where i can buy internal webcams and their format ?

    Thanks !

If you're not buying an exact replacement, I think you're setting yourself up for a disappointing ride...

The hardware maybe more or less 'standard' - but the details and how it interacts with the driver(s), BIOS, etc. will make a bigger difference of whether you can make it work like 'oem'.

What is the problem specifically? What notebook, what O/S? What driver? What software?

Have you tried a clean install of your O/S?

What is making you so sure that the webcam is faulty?

it's faulty, dead, it starts showing artifacts after 5 seconds of running.. IE pictures (3 seconds from each other) :

it's getting worse everytime i use it :)

about the compatibility issues, for me, it's just physical. it's basically an USB device.

    Bump... ;)

I'm kinda shocked to see no responses to your issue from others and yeah; the camera seems done for...

Myself? I only use a web cam to make sure a computer works fully (when first bought) - after that? Never had a use for one.

A USB device it is, but if the BIOS, hardware or drivers needs specific OEM 'strings' to make it work; it can become proprietary very quickly.

Have you had any luck getting this replaced?

The easiest solution of course is an external (USB) web cam - though not as portable/convenient as a built in (of course).

Yeap, I got a 720p hercules webcam for job interviews. I'm not so okey about opening up the screen and seeing how it looks. wouldnt mind ordering some GT70 GPXX webcams at 10$ (more or less).
Will see when i get more free time !

If the webcam will be only/mostly used for interviews - leave an otherwise running system alone. ;)

The interviews will stop eventually... (Good luck!).
