Hi
I am looking to buy the new ASUS UX301LA. I am looking at the two variants with the only difference being the size of the 2 ssd's:
- DE022H (2x 128GB) - much cheaper
- DE002H (2x 256GB)
I would like to have more than 256GB in total, so the second one seems like the best choice. However, I have a Samsung 840 Series MZ-7TD250 SSD from my current laptop, and I am wondering, if I would be better off buying another one of those, and then buying the cheap DE022H and putting them in it instead of the 128GB SSD's. This would still be a lot cheaper than buying the expensive version. If anyone could help me decide based on the questions below, I would be very glad.
- Is this possible at all? The SSD's aren't soldered on or anything like that?
- Will the performance be worse/better? I cannot seem to find any info on the SSD's that are included.
- Samsung is now selling the newer version of my current SSD (MZ-7TE250) at around the same price. Can I use that alongside my current SSD in Raid 0, or should I go with an identical drive?
- Are there any other differences between these two variants of the UX301LA model? I cannot seem to figure out, why the DE002H is so much more expensive. I could even buy two 256GB SSD's alongside the DE022H, and it would still be cheaper.
Any help, with any of these points is much appreciated.

Hi Mads,
I couldn't find much about it either; I went here out of curiosity, the exact model?: Custom Laptops, Gaming Notebooks, Custom Gaming Laptops | XOTIC PC
1. Not soldered in (or, better not be!)
2. There's no telling what is in there. Maybe try calling them toll free.
3. Use an identical drive for RAID. It would do no good to mix those two models.
4. Either a marketing ploy or there's something different other than just the SSD's.
See if you can find a reseller that gives some more details about the model. -
Thank you for the answers.
It seems, that the drives are Sandisk X110 NGFF 2260. And I cannot find anywhere to buy SSD's in this format. If anyone knows where I can get any in Europe, please reply. Otherwise, I will have to go for the expensive version it seems. It feels odd, that I have to pay so much for 256GB extra -
OEM part. Possibly proprietary.

SanDisk Shows Off New Ultra Plus and X110 SSDs @ Storage Visions 2013 | Custom PC Review
Snip:
Among the other more interesting products on display is the SanDisk X110 SSD. The X110 is more of an OEM oriented drive, so it won’t be on retail shelves anytime soon, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it starts showing up in some of the new notebooks at CES in a couple days. The X110 will feature 19nm SanDisk Toggle Mode MLC NAND and will be powered by the Marvell 9175 controller. What’s interesting about the X110 is that it will also contain what SanDisk calls “nCache”, which is a non-volatile SLC NAND cache ensuring data in the cache is retained even after sudden power failure.

EDIT:
Some other people around here have a much broader knowledge of the different Mfrs technologies, Controllers, Nand dies and type etc.
