hello everyone and I had a question that I though a few of you could answer....would it be worth it to buy a laptop with the base config then purchase what ya want from somewhere like newegg.com? It's a Thinkpad X61...
    TIA

No, it's only economical to purchase barebones desktops. Esp. since most people don't have the skills necessary to put an entire laptop together due to lack of space.

Only RAM and maybe HDD are really user friendly for upgrading. RAM being definitly worth looking at to buy on your own. CPU,GPU and most others no way buy from OEM at purchase.

Standard, @7200rpm. Which particular I don't know, also you need to give me the size before I even think about looking.

oh I figure that it was just a given that a 7200rpm was always gunna be the faster then a 5400rpm HDD

With newer yes but some older 7200 might be slower than current 5400.

    Makes perfect sense to me.

Memory for sure, HDD maybe. CPU in the distant future if at all. I'm sure you know that the graphics for that model are integrated so it's not upgradable.
