    Hi,
I have an old Compaq Evo N600C that I just replaced with an Acer 5672. The Evo suddenly starting making a buzzing noise. It is coming from the DC Power In area. If I move the power cord around it stops buzzing but if the cord is moved it starts buzzing again. If I leave it buzzing too long the laptop just restarts. Anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks
    Rob

Sounds like it could be a loose power connection to the motherboard. Or the adapter isn't fitting right. :(

try cleaning the contact surfaces on both ends. Although the restart seems to point to a problem on board.

You do have a functional battery plugged in, right?

Thank you for the replies! The pin inside the DC In is a little loose so it might be damaged. Previously the video in broke on me. Is it possible to replace or repair it and if so how much would it cost?

The battary is working. However, I think once it starts buzzing the battery gets drained and then it restarts because the DC In is not providing enough power.

Almost all modern notebooks have the AC input right on the motherboard. So you might need to replace your motherboard.

I had that problem with my wife's HP. The dog pulled out the AC plug and snapped the pin from inside. He got the part and had to "customize" it (grind it down to fit). That cost me about $155.

I don't know how much the motherboard is going to cost, but I think the motherboard replacement is a better bet, unless you want to save the money.

If it is still under warranty you might get if covered though.

    Hope this helps.

This thread is a year and a half old, so I would doubt they still need an answer.
