Okay, just want to settle an argument.
I was almost positive that the Core 2 Duo CPUs were based on the Pentium IIIs.
Can someone settle this?
Thanks, for helping me be right*hint* lol

In a very round-about way, yes. The Core 2 Duo is just the Core Duo with x86-64 instructions and a faster FSB, which in turn was a dual-core Pentium M with a faster FSB. The Pentium M was developed using the Pentium III architecture as its base, rather than NetBurst.
So I suppose, technically, you're right. Have fun! -

In a way it is. Core 2 Duo's are derived from Yonah (Core Duo). Yonah was a die shrunk pair of Banias cores (Pentium M). Banias was based on the core of the P3 Tualatin series and also using the parts of the P4's quad pumped bus. So in a way, it is indeed rooted with the P3.

Woot! I was right!
Thanks a ton guys.
hehe I WIN! xD -
In a way yes! But No! They got rid of their branch intuitiveness dreams (branch predictions) that started with P4. More pipelines and all. But that does not make it a PIII. Your bet at best is a draw at worst you lose. It is not a faster PIII I will look into further this is off the top of my head my friend. You likely should get some cash ready?

LOL, he's arguing with me.
I said they were way to different, even if the C2D is based on something that is based on something that is based on a PIII -
ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
Thomas you are going to have to throw in the towel on this one.
1. He has some of the basis correct.
2. Your User Title has a grammar mistake, thus you cannot be a hacker as they rarely do any spelling mistakes.
You fail.
Just kidding bro.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

When did you say anything about this at all...? As far as I can see you hadn't posted until this post... -
We were arguing over IM.
And why isnt it a surprise that I posted until now? -
I know a few differences, they are different in size
The pentium 3 never got hot, so it didnt need much of a heatsink
The p3 has less pin ports
the core based desktop ones have no pins.
The p3's were made in malaysia and costa rica,
now almost all core based cpu's are made in China and malaysia

See Wikipedia. It's a pair of Pentium M's with a few tweaks.
Intel will be eternally thankful for the management decision to allow a few people (in Israel, if my memory is correct) to continue to develop the Pentium M when the official strategy was Netburst (Pentium 4 and more). Then Netburst got hotter and hotter and AMD were smiling.

intel better be thankfull or else theyd still be running pentium d's lol. This makes me laugh at my laptop.

Edit: From the Core Microarchitecture article:
