    CD/DVD drive not detect any disc...

    hi,...
    iam using Hp compaq 6715s and using xp os, for the past 1month my laptop cd/dvd drive was not able to detect any discs including empty disc, solutions like uninstalling drives, deleting lower and upper filters didnt work, . . :confused: but when put os cd , it detects and show but i cant install os fully, whats the problem do u have any solution ....

    I would try removing drive the putting it back in. Could be a loose connection or a loose mounting screw. I had problem with my drive reading discs a little while back. Mounting screws were a little loose i assume from vibration. It fixed the problem. Just a thought.

    Did you try the Microsoft Upper/lower filters fix, the one that auto runs off Microsoft's website?

    Sounds more like a bad drive or "only" a dusty optical system.
    So, I'd carefully try to clean the lens (not using a "lens cleaner disc") and see if things improve.
